Sixteen years ago, free-willed Wei Wuxian made friend with Gusu Lan Sect’s Second Young Master, Lan Wangji. They worked together to fight the evil Wen Sect. Wen's leader tried to gather stygian plates which are believed to have a powerful curse that can tremble cultivation world. Wen Sect crushed Wei Wuxian's home in Yunmeng and killed Jiang Sect Leader who took him in as an adopted son. The Wens also abolished Jiang Cheng (Jiang Leader's son)'s golden core so he can no longer cultivate. It was Wen Qing and Wen Ning, siblings from lower class of Wen Clan who saved Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng. With the help of Wen Qing, Wei Wuxian gave his golden core energy to his foster brother in secret.
Other clans ganged up against Wen and succeed stripping the evil power. However, gripping such glory made Jin Clan, the richest among other, took position as the world’s police and decided to abolish every blood of Wens. Wei Wuxian stood to protect Wen Qing, Wen Ning and the old Wen Clan who knew nothing about their leader’s evil plan. He was then framed labeled as rebel and ended up killed.
Lan Wangji never believed Wei Wuxian died. He kept searching for years. Until one day, Wei Wuxian’s soul is summoned by young man named Mo Xuanyu. Wei Wuxian meets Lan Wangji. Together they investigate the tragedy 16 years ago.
It’s coming from a BL novel, but if you expect Japanese’ BL style, you’ll find this very light. Can’t deny bromance here and there, but hey, I can spot bromance in “normal” drama every time. Lol. The BL part was not the reason I picked this. As you can see I’m very shallow. I appreciate pretty things and there are many pretty boys in this series. I’ve been liking Xiao Zhan since Fight Breaks Sphere and Oh My Emperor. Never thought he could land in main cast. He’s handsome, not the kind of polished handsome, though. He’s like natural handsome, similar to Lin Yan Jun. XD.
I never paid attention to Wang Yibo before. I didn’t even know about UNIQ. I’ve seen him in Happy camp when guesting as part of Yuehua family (with NE7T). He’s not bad and very nice looking as Lan Wang Ji. I’m very satisfied.
My favorite character is the tsundere purple boy, Jiang Cheng, played by Wang Zhuocheng. He actually have deep voice and loves to sing. He reminds me Wang Kai. I hope you make it big, kid.
The only obvious sign of BL story here is the lack of female characters. Yes we have Shijie and Wen Qing who become love interests. But, you will find the male pairs are easy to notice. XD
