Imawa no Kuni no Alice is probably the most popular japanese drama in 2020. Not only because all the extravagant casts, which consists of current popular young actresses and actors.

While the story about people trapped in game is an annual story in japanese entertainment world, it seems people doesn’t mind. But, I do. My first survival game story is Battle Royale. After watching it, I realize how sick the japanese community is. At that time, adults hated children and wanted to reduce their numbers by getting them into battle royale game. Children were considered useless and high maintenance. Why did they make children anyway? The adults could just not reproducting, right? What a bunch of crazy generation.

In this Imawa no Kuni no Alice, the society is even crazier. Arisu is not only left by his family, but also being bullied. I think the worst a parent can say to a child is “I have no more expectation to you”. It’s like blowing the candle of his motivation to live. We know a lot of children struggle just to be praised by their parents. So, instead of bringing him to psychologist, Arisu’s father and brother quip his condition. So, it’s true that people who are close to us are the reason of our mental health deteriorating.

Sucked into the game world, these hopeless people seems to find their place. The NEET, the hikikomori are amazed by their new-found competence to survive. Those who are left behind in the real world could really shine every time they clear up each games. Because it doesn’t take college degree or suck up to your superior to survive.
