Shen Cui Xi is the head of Ren family, a prestigious tapestry (kesi) businessman. Not only she's talented in making kesi, she's also a great businesswoman who puts everyone's interests first. However, her husband doesn't love her. Ren Xue Tang agreed to marry her for the family, but he keeps a mistress, Zeng Bao Qin outside.

The first episode is a struggle to me because I don't like broken families or affairs. I put it on hold for a week before continuing. And I'm so glad I did. Yes, the love affair is messy, but no one is to blame. They are taking their own choices. Cui Xi chose to marry even though she doesn't love Xue Tang and he has a childhood sweetheart. Xue Tang decided to proceed with the marriage even though he can only offer a name for her. Zeng Bao Qin is willing to be kept as mistress even though there's another man who loves her. They're all pitiful.
However, the main idea of this drama is how a woman should have the skill to live by herself. At that time women are treated as property. Parents marry (read: sold) their kids against their will, sometimes to the husbands who don't appreciate them. Husbands can have affairs. Husbands can decide to disappear for years. What can a woman do if encounter such situations? No one should rely on other people to live. People can leave you, you should be independent.
