Kazama Kimichika is the new instructor in the police academy. He’s cold and strict. The students come from different background and posses different motives. He pays attention to every detail, asking students every tiny thing of their daily lives. He can easily connect the dots between unrelated cases. Using the information, he tests each student to filter the best police candidate.

I never managed to finish any police academy dorama, but this one is so intense. Each scene is absolutely perfect. It could be made into a full-length dorama (with these casts, please).

The idea is a bit different from a lot of school dramas. But, instead of trying to befriend the students, the instructor chooses appropriate distance so they still respect him as a teacher. The teacher is not a student's friend. A teacher should have the charisma that would lead the kids to better behavior change. However, Kazama is not all cold. He let the students experience harshness to taught them that every step has meaning. He won't let them kill themselves. You can say he's kinda tsundere. 

Is this method allowed? No beating, though. No bullying, also. Only forcing them to the edge. And by the time they stuck, they'll always remember the lesson.
