Empress Wu doesn’t like Dee Renjie who’s getting full trust from the emperor. She hires a bunch of assassins to bring him down or at least slander his integrity by stealing his Dragon-Taming Mace. Little she knows that the assassins were used by secret sects planning to rebels.
Dee Renjie tries to brush off the empress' jealousy and works incognito to catch the sects.
Just like the previous 3 movies, Tsui Hark delivers plot where unbelievable phenomenon actually orchestrated by the villain. It's not like the detective stereotype when trick actually designed in simple ways, but Tsui Hark obviously puts the magic part in the action.
Unlike the previous movies, this one seems less comedic. You can't expect them from Dee Renjie and Yuichi, but at least Shatao provides us a cute romance with Moon Water. They have small part of the plot, but their scenes make me giggle every time.
