Kitazawa family consists of Kitazawa Taizo and his three children. He’s a principal of the elite private middle school and praised for having successful offsprings. His oldest son, Hirofumi is a heart surgeon expected to be chief of the famous hospital. The second one is a sharp female lawyer, Chiaki. and the youngest, Shusaku becomes Criminal Affair Division’s chief clerk even though he’s only 25.
The Kitazawa keep their private matters tight, but it doesn't mean they have no problems at all. Every time they encounter a crisis each member of the family contributes to fix the problem. Hirofumi and Chiaki are quick to think alternatives and let Shusaku executes the plan. But, Shusaku is not as domineering as his siblings. He's afraid of taking a risk and always overthinking the consequences. Unfortunately, as the youngest member of the family, he's always intimidated to do as the others want.
I find Yamaryo perfect for this role. He has versatile facial expression combined with funny intonation. He's the center of this comedic story. Being young and bullied fits him well. My most favorite scene is when he sits on the floor listening to his brother and sister commanding, like a servant. lol.
Haru is not my cup of tea, but she plays Chiaki well. I remember when she portrayed cynical beauty in Switch Girl, she fits the role of arrogant antagonist. Lately, she's been picking up roles which too soft for her to handle. What a waste. Being Chiaki liven her up.
This is the perfect example of the family as an economic unit, where every member contributes to the family goal. By participating in a family matter, each proofs their value and earn a sense of belongingness. I find the case of each episode is something Japanese people can face in their daily life. Tbh, this is some kind of black comedy, where they mix appropriate humor into the slice of life plot, with Shusaku as the main victim. So, if you're intobullying Yamaryo family comedy, this is the one for you.
