Liang Emperor trusts his adopted brother, Prince Ting Sheng from Chang Lin Manor. Chang Lin Army has been protecting the borders and the old prince’s advice is always favorable to the emperor’s ear. He has two sons: the heir, Xiao Pingzhang who’s excellent in military advance, and the younger son, Xiao Pingjing who’s more frivolous, but have amazing martial art skill. Both follow their father’s teaching and devoted to the kingdom.
Human.is.always.dissatisfied.
The kingdom is healthy, the emperor is just, the army is strong, yet, some people are just never getting enough. They're overthinking that Chang Lin Manor would not stay loyal despite their virtues.
Gosh, I never thought to love this series (but not as big as my love for the first season. You know why). The characters are not so different from the previous installment, but they come with some upgrades.
Xiao Pingzhang is similar to Lin Shu for his calm and brilliant thought. He also falls to injury (he starts coughing on first 2 minutes of the first episode. LOL). He acts carefully and spoils his little brother very much. Sounds familiar, ha?
Xiao Pingjing is the version 2.0 of Fei Liu: strong, childish, do things as he wishes but always listen to the older brother. Never seen the actor, Liu Haoran, before, but he's cute. He's perfect for the role. *I'm rooting for him*
A political story is not enough without someone lurking behind planting evil seeds to take revenge, like Mei Chang Su. This time the role is given to the priest which no matter how we look at him we automatically know he's the bad guy. His fashion and way of talking clearly pointing out his villainous. Yeah, you can hate this man. He's not Hu Ge. lol.
Ting Sheng and the emperor are both Jingyan's makes me believe that Jingyan did such a great job being a father. I mean, he must be very fair to his children that the brothers work together so well. The emperor loves his older brother so much and always listen to him. There's so many skinship in Chang Lin Manor, also between the emperor and crown prince. It's something we never had in the palace before. Jingyan was so cold and stiff (and I love him so much).
However, you know I have a crush on supporting role. I found this Meng Zhi's disciple, Xun Feizhan to be adorable. not Pingjing adorable. He's cool, smart, and stiff, but less naive than the mentor. These qualities make him less bullyable (hahahah, is that even a word? ).
This sequel also reveals more romance. Did you cringe for Nihuang- MCS relationship? Don't worry. We have Pingzhang and his wife Meng Qian Xue that makes you happy because there is a noble marriage based on love. They are so cute making me diabetic. Pingjig also makes cute escort to the young doctor, Lin Xi, which he didn't know has been engaged born. There's also Yuanqi, pingjing's cousin, who fell at first sight with Xun Anru. He managed to gain military merit so emperor bestows him marriage.
However, among the three, Lin Xi is my favorite. Although each ends up with their loved ones, only Lin Xi gain the power to accept feeling. Normally, a woman doesn't have the bargaining power to choose who to marry. Ping Zhang asked the emperor to marry him to Meng Qian Xue when she was only 14. Similar to Yuanqi's case. Only Lin Xi can prolong friendzone with Ping Jing before admitting that they were meant to be together since they were born. I like a woman with power.
Enough babbling, let's watch this show and suffer together (again).
