Mumon: The Land of Stealth/ Shinobi no Kuni

| Release: 2017.07.01
| Cast: Ohno Satoshi | Iseya Yusuke | Suzuki Ryohei | Ishihara Satomi | Chinen Yuri

In the land of Iga, ninjas are trained to be soldiers. From time to time, they fight each other, as it's just a sport. Losing life is an everyday event and none shed a tear. Working for money, ninjas are hired by lords across the nation to win their wars.
When his brother killed in a stupid fight with another ninja, Shimoyama Heibe realizes how barbarian they've been living there. He betrays the tribe and offers Oda Nobukatsu a plan to seize Iga's land.
Iga's 12 elder councils trap Nobukatsu to make a castle in Iga, paying those ninjas to build it. The ninjas are so happy they have a stable income, including Mumon. He's the strongest yet super lazy ninja. The only reason he works so hard to earn money is because his wife, Okuni, demands him to bring 40kan a year.

I feel that trailer has misled me. I thought Mumon's wife is kidnapped, thus he's willing to work hard to get her back. The truth is, it’s more about how this ninja stirred by the Elder. People in power often get more than those who really work their asses in the field. Of course, it’s not fair. But, it’s the reality. The Elder get more money while the ninjas work for pennies. Don’t know how this built, but the materialistic culture is deep rooted in Iga. They just want to work as long as they’re paid. So, when Oda Nobukatsu wants to attack Iga, they can’t help but ask who’s gonna pay them to defend their land. This is not the idea you want to convey to young generations, right? That’s why it rates 21+ in my local cinema.
Now, let’s talk about Iseya Yusuke. Manly. Handsome. Charismatic. His role is called Daizen Heki, the former Ise’s official who’s following Oda Nobukatsu. Though he’s a traitor for Ise, he’s the one with competency that half Ise’s man still obey. If he doesn’t move, the army won’t move. Such a greatness which’s not possessed by young Oda Nobukatsu.
Iseya is so hot that makes me drooling throughout the movie. It’s so weird when he becomes the main hero, his movie barely make the talk (take that Tenor Liriko Spinto, for example). But, when he becomes the supporting cast, he steals the show (and my heart). Whether he was Aoshi (Rurouni Kenshin), Jotaro Kujo (Jojo),  Rikiishi Toru (Ashita no Joe) or when he played in Sukiyaki Western Django (I forget the character’s name, but he looked so good in white).
