“When people do bad things, sometimes law can’t judge them”. A vigilante called Light of The City is punishing evil lawyer, escaped rapist, and swindler. Detective Fang Mu is invited to join the investigation. He's a criminal psychologist who got demoted after suspected violate a rapist. Although he's acting like a jerk, Fang Mu gains admiration from his colleagues due to his keen perception.
Fang Mu works with an enthusiastic young detective, Mi Nan. They suspect a fish seller, Jiang Ya who had a hard childhood and now have to take care of his comatose wife. Jiang Ya went to the same high school as Fang Mu.
Deng Chao, Deng Chao, what is the charisma he possesses? Every time he works with grey/white hair, my heart melts. hahaha. I might not into his comedy, but he's really good playing melancholic guy.
Fang Mu must be confused (although he can rationalize Light of the City's problem later). If I were him, it's really scary to have your old friend turning into murder, because he idolized you!!! Being an idol is not easy. The fan has certain expectations for your life and demands you to live the way he imagines. Sick, isn't it?
The point of this movie is how police caught this so-called-divine punisher according to the law. Just because the criminal is playing dirty doesn't mean police must beat them at their games. Following the rule is also effective to finish the task.
